Twitter starts testing its own version of Stories, called ‘Fleets'
It may have taken long, but this little blue bird is finally catching up to Instagram. Nearly four years after the platform you use to document everything from brunch to barre class debuted its most popular sharing feature, Instagram Stories is finally getting competition from Twitter in a new feature called “Fleets.” The new tool allows users to share temporary content that lasts for 24 hours… but unlike on Insta, your followers can’t respond with likes, replies, or a video where their head’s been filtered to look like a llama.
Meanwhile, the company that started it all—Snapchat—is onto the next big thing: “advanced mobile storytelling.” In the past few months, they’ve made more than 95 “hypercondensed shows specifically to watch on a smartphone.” The new content stars YouTubers like Summer Mckeen instead of celebs Shay Mitchell, and the shows reach more than 38 million viewers… which is 15 million more than this year’s Oscars. And we wouldn't be surprised if the majority of those views come from bathroom stalls.
