Scouts, meet STEM

Girl Scouts can earn five STEM badges through Microsoft partnership

The company will offer free workshops through its retail stores.

It looks like Girl Scouts are moving from Thin Mint cookies to web cookies. Microsoft has partnered with the Girl Scouts of the USA to give troop members the opportunity to earn five STEM badges, by taking free workshops held at the brand’s stores across the country.

Classes will cover computer use, robotics, movie-making, and photography, and, according to a press release, the goal of the partnership is to “give girls vital digital skills and foster leadership qualities to help close the gender gap in STEM fields.” So the next time you see a kid on a computer, she may be practicing robotics (unlike that one co-worker who watches Netflix rom-coms at work all day).
