Friends that spacewalk together, stay together. This morning, best friends Christina Koch and Jessica Meir are taking part in the very first all-female spacewalk in history. The NASA astronauts have left the International Space Station for a 6.5-hour spacewalk by themselves, which is a big deal since women have never gone on these walks without men, and of the 227 people who have done spacewalks, only 14 have been female. “What we’re doing now shows all of the work that went in for the decades prior, all of the women that worked to get us where we are today,” Jessica said in a statement. On Friday, Oct. 18 starting at about 7:50 a.m. EDT, NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Jessica Meir will venture outside the International Space Station for a spacewalk. The duo will exit the station's Quest airlock in their U.S. spacesuits to replace a power controller that failed over the weekend.
