Aloha from Hawaii. Ok fine, I'm back from paradise with a lot of new amazing techie announcements you should know about. Last week Qualcomm sent me to Hawaii for their annual Snapdragon Summit, and I had the pleasure of geeking out in paradise over all their latest technologies and developments. Oh I also took over their IG on day one, did you check it out?

Here's a recap of everything they announced and what it means for you.

5G is here

You’ve probably heard about it in commercials or seen it in headlines, and maybe unclear. The G in 5G means it's a generation of wireless technology. It's the next big step  in wireless communications.

So what does that mean for you? Think 10 to 100 times speedier than your typical cellular connection aja unprecedented speeds.

✔️Faster downloads
✔️The cloud feels like it’s on your phone
✔️Real time experiences unlocked. Think #VR and #AR.

Next year will be the year for 5G ultra fast smartphones thanks to the Qualcomm's Snapdragon855 smartphone chip. Wifi woes? This will be a thing of the past with Snapdragon 855.

It's not just the  big speed boost, 5G promises to enable next-generation technologies and will supercharge areas like self-driving cars, virtual and augmented reality and telemedicine services, such as remote surgery.

Snapdragon 855 smartphone chip

This chip is what's inside most Android phones, best known for their powerful processors that serve as the brains of  phones, like the the Google Pixel 3 and Samsung Galaxy Note 9. The 855 might make Apple users get off the bandwagon because many new Android smartphone will come equipped with this phone and Apple will not have this tech in their phones.

At the conference, their partners AT&T and Verizon set up "live networks" in the hotel to show off their capabilities. Samsung showed off a 5G reference device at the event.

Snapdragon 8cx AKA Qualcomm’s new 7nm Always-Connected PC platform

What does that mean for you?

✔️ Immersive entertainment
✔️ Multi-gigabit LTE
✔️ Multi-day battery life

The 8cx brings even more power to the Always Connected PC as the first mobile platform built from the ground up for the PC.

The first 7nm chip for PCs brings you Gigabit LTE, 2x faster graphics performance, multi-day battery life, and extreme productivity with the ability to use dual 4K HDR displays. Shut up and take my money!
