What to expect at CES 2022

CES is going to look a little different this year, but there are still lots of new products and announcements in the works. From new smart home tech to QLED and OLED TVs to the latest GPUs. So what new products will we hear about and see? Take a look below.

SMART HOME

Whether we’re ready for it or not, the home is seeing major advancements and exciting technology. READ: Robots.

We'll see smart robot vacuums and robot mops, as well as baby-focused devices to help new parents get a few more minutes of sleep each night. It might take some time before a robot can pack your lunch, but this year will no doubt bring us closer.

We've seen big names like Amazon get into the space and it will be a matter of time until we see more widespread adoption. The Amazon’s Astro is definitely going to make robots more common in our homes. In 2020, Sunflower Labs launched The Bee, an autonomous home security drone for your yard.

On top of that this year's CES seems to have a particular focus on privacy-focused devices that protect your data, as well as devices that protect your home. Expect to hear more about Matter (a new smart home standard that’s supported by Apple, Google, Amazon) and Thread, too.

CARS

Over the last five years, CES has transformed into one of the most important car shows in the world. And here's some news for you: EVs are here to stay. On top of that, they're no longer just a novelty for techies and environmentalists. Hyundai proved they could be affordable with the Ioniq 5, Mercedes proved they could be luxurious with the EQS, and Ford proved they could do work with the F-150 Lightning.

In the past, there were only a handful of options available but come 2022 there will be over 100 different models to choose from. And with the influx of new models comes much more affordable options. So expect much, much more at CES 2022.

Health and wellness

Digital health, activity trackers, and sex tech will be a part of the CES conversation. Robert B. Ford, the chair and chief executive of Abbott Laboratories—which makes, among many other things, over-the-counter rapid Covid-19 tests—is one of the keynote speakers.

Overall, well see new case scenarios for sensors that will integrated into our lives and that will actually make sense- beyond our watches. Think about a t-shirt that will tell you heart rate and be comfortable.

New Frontiers

Some of the new categories at the show this year include space tech, NFTS and the metaverse.

These space tech exhibitors include companies like, Sierra Space, a subsidiary of Sierra Nevada Corporation that’s been building space planes to carry cargo to the ISS, to Zero-G, which charters private zero-gravity flights.

SO YES, CES is pretty much the highlight of my year.
