How to Make Someone's Phone Ring Even on Silent (iPhone Shortcut Hack)

If your partner keeps their phone on Do Not Disturb but then somehow always loses it and asks you to call it, and when you do, it doesn't ring, well then this one's for you.

You can fix this with a simple shortcut on iPhone. Here's how to set it up in under two minutes.

Open the Shortcuts App on their Phone

It's already on iPhone, no download needed. Hit Automation at the bottom of the screen.

Create the Automation

Tap New AutomationWhen Message Received. Set the sender to yourself, then under "Message Contains," type your trigger word: “lost.”

Important: When prompted, select Run Immediately. Don't skip this step, it's what makes the whole thing actually work without requiring approval every time.

Add Your Three Actions

Once the trigger is set, add these three actions in order:

  1. Silent mode off

  2. Set volume to 100%

  3. Play a song (pick something dramatic — you know you want to)

How It Works

Next time they lose their phone, you just send one text: lost. Their phone will instantly blast off silent from wherever it's buried, no hunting, no cushion-diving, no calling a phone that won't ring.

No more "can you call my phone?" No more couch cushion crime scenes.

Save this one. It'll probably come in handy again tonight.
