Robocalls are getting worse, T-Mobile is fighting them with free safeguards
If it seems like robocalls are getting worse, it’s not you- it’s them. My number has become a spam magnet. I probably get 20 calls a day from different numbers that seem real, I block one and then get a call from a different one. So then, I don’t answer calls from unknown numbers, and end up missing important calls that I actually really want — from my son’s doctor, to appointments I’ve been trying to make for a month.
These scammers are getting really good. And now, with Coronavirus concerns, you can add another thing to the list of reasons why 2020 needs to be cancelled as scammers are preying on consumers’ growing health and financial fears. Sadly, this year, Americans have already lost over $80 million to COVID-related scams, and it’s just getting worse — coronavirus scams increased 70% from just May to June according to the FTC. Ouch!
T-Mobile has been at the forefront in the battle against spammers and scammers for years - and if you’re a T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile or Sprint customer, you will now automatically get Scam Shield, a whole range of FREE safeguards designed to stop scammers in their tracks.
Scam Shield arms T-Mobile, Metro by T-Mobile and Sprint customers with a series of tools designed to stop scammers in their tracks, giving you more information about who’s calling and protecting your personal information. This series of safeguards include:
Free Scam ID and Blocking. Suspicious calls are flagged, and customers can turn on scam blocking to never see those calls again.
Free, Enhanced Caller ID. Customers get free Caller ID and with new improvements, you’ll know when a number is verified as coming from a real person or business.
Free Second Number. T-Mobile PROXY is a second phone number to keep your personal number personal. It’s like a free spam folder for your phone. No extra line to pay for, no special phone required.
Free Number Change. If your personal number’s become a spam magnet, get a clean slate with a new number. This has to be my favorite!
Free Scam Shield App. A central spot to activate these new protections. And or an extra charge, you can unlock more advanced call controls. Sprint customers now get free protections — previously an added charge — in the upgraded Call Screener app.
Free Be ID Aware Service. Get ID monitoring and alerts for 12 months from the experts at McAfee, available for a limited time.
Scams and unwanted robocalls cost Americans over $10 billion a year, and it’s obvious why it’s the #1 complaint to the FCC. I know this from personal experience, my uncle was scammed and wired money to a foreign account. If only he knew about this!
